Wall double socket not working

Hi

I have a double socket connected to a 13amp fused one that I use for our washing machine & tumble dryer in kitchen which stopped working. I have tried changing the fuse & also changed the double socket unit itself to no avail. The only point I'd mention is that the old socket had two earth pints on each side whereas the new one i bought only had one (so I only connected one of those when replacing!).

It's still not working!! Any other ideas to try before I call an electrician @xmas which will be very costly

Earth is common across the socket .
Is the connection at the socket testing live on the live wire ??
Presume the double socket is live ??

The answer to the second question I unfortunately don't know as I don't have a machine to test if it's live (assuming that's what I need?)

Plug something in to it and switch it on - a table lamp is ideal.
