BT threatening to sue
My wife hit a telephone pole in April, the car was written off and the pole needed replaced, the insurance company settled with us and BT were provided with insurance details- we have received a letter from BT saying if our insurance does not settle within 21 days we would be liable for the £2000 and are threatening legal action.... can they do this? I read recently in a national paper that they could not go after us but need to sue or go after the insurance company? Is this right

Forward tbe correspondence on to your insurance company.
Personally I'd write/email BT and tell them that is what you have done and again provide full contact details including telephone numbers and reference number for your insurer. Other posters will no doubt suggest not replying to BT at all and just forwarding on the correspondence.0 -
They have to sue your wife in her name. Her insurance then indemnifies her and takes over handling of the claim. Pass the documents onto your insurers and ask them to deal as a matter of urgency.0

My policy says I must "... immediately send us all communications from other people involved without replying."
I'd be surprised if the OP's is much different.0 -
Yes, just forward the paperwork, and ring your insurance company up and ask them what the hell they are playing at.0

You would be breaching your policy conditions were you to follow this poor advice.
"Other posters" are giving the correct advice!0 -
I'd hate to disappoint you!

Even with such a clause I can't see there being a problem with simply acknowledging receipt of the correspondence and stating that in accordance with your policy it is being forwarded on.0 -
The " clause" is unambiguous and there for a reason,!0

But why bother, no need to make things more complicated and risk giving the insurers a chance to claim you failed to follow the terms of the policy.0

As common courtesy, so BT know you haven't just thrown the letter in the bin and given them another chance to correspond directly with the insurers.0
