    Hi

I've also got a sourdough starter on the go and I'm going to attempt my first loaf tomorrow!

I’ve also got my first sourdough starter, I started it on December 3rd, with rye flour. My loaves are tasty but a bit like chewy ordinary bread, I’m not getting a really open bubbly texture. I’m using loaf pans as my first attempt at a boule went a bit flat. I’ll be interested to know how you get on. The American pancakes made with the discard are great, and the crumpets are nice too. Might try a pizza base next.

I haven't made a recipe from a cook book yet, but I did create some muffins that used up a jar of mincemeat and a sorry looking apple.

I am trying to lose weight, but dinners are a problem in the Flo household as OH and I are chalk and cheese when it comes to food, so I am going to get him to look through some books for healthy dinners we could eat together. (OH doesn't cook, so guess it's down to me to do the cooking)

    Hi

I've been reading this thread so thought I'd join in, I've loved reading about what you've all made and I want to cook more new recipes and I'm also going to cook every recipe from one book over the year - Nigel Slater's Real Food.

This week I've made Hughs chicken with plums and soy sauce 9/10

A baked Camembert with puff pastry pancetta twists - the twists were wonderful and easy, but my cheese didn't melt. I'll guess I'll just have to try again :)

Today I'm making slow cooked lamb shoulder with griddled veg from economy gastronomy -though I'm cooking it for much longer than in the book so it hopefully falls apart. Leftovers to be made as per their book into a shepards pie, plus some to stuff in a wrap with hummus and pomegranate seeds.

I've also got a sourdough starter on the go and I'm going to attempt my first loaf tomorrow!

    Hi CommitedtoChange and welcome
You are going for it :) I love camembert its mydinner party speciality. Have you seen this btw
    Hedgehog Bread
I always make one with my cheese to dip in ...yum

Let us know how you get on with your lamb

mincemeat muffins mmm have a large jar to use so I may steal that idea :D
  • Lamb was delicious - meat was falling apart, cooking it for so long (8hrs!) meant the fat all melted off leaning the meat much leaner - but still tasty as I basted every hour. Huge amount left as it's just me, but that was the point :D

Salad was also good - and I'd make it against just as a light dinner.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I have a success to report :D. I made a Latin American Shepherds Pie from the Hairy Dieters go Veggie book last night and everyone really liked it including my committed carnivore hubby. I didn't tell him it was a veggie meal and he didn't even ask where the meat was :rotfl:.

The meal itself was made with kidney and butter beans and veg with a blitzed sweetcorn topping instead of mash and then had a little bit of reduced fat cheddar sprinkled on it. I didn't know what to serve it with so just did some granary bread and butter and it all got scoffed.

I am pushing myself tonight and cracking open my Slimming World Curry book and making carrot and onion bhajees, tandoori chicken skewers, keema matar and pilau rice. None of it probably goes together but I liked the look of the photos :).

I've still not managed to go through any cook books but I was noodling online for ideas to use up lurking bits in the fridge so tonight I'm making this https://thecookreport.co.uk/tomato-halloumi-bake/ (albeit scaled down) which I'll have with greek pitta bread:)

I made the above last night and it was lovely, only change I made was to use fresh chill rather than flakes, I halved the recipe and it did make 2 portions so the "Serves 4" stated seems to be accurate.
It was easy to do and the spicing worked well, I think it would work well with different veggie combinations in tom sauce as a base. Definitely a keeper:D

Making a lamb tandoori with chapatis raita and red and white cabbage slaw :D

    Lamb Tandori

Going to make my own tandoori paste though which I found here

    Tandoori Paste

Need to make it soon then it can marinade for a few hours

Also very oddly I am making a batch of mince pies which I have never made before either but I have a load of mince in and to be honest I miss them :D Going to use my Jamie Christmas book for these as the other two are online recipes which was not my plan with this challenge.

Nelski - if you like making curry's from scratch try this website http://www.mamtaskitchen.com/ it's fab. JO also has a few good one's in "Ministry of Food" though I wasn't keen on the Korma paste in it. ( I no longer have this book as it was "liberated" by my younger son when he moved out :rotfl:). Have you got Kris Dhillon's "Curry Secret" - definitely worth getting if you want to recreate a takeaway curry?

While I do love my cookbooks and would be loathe to part with them as I love reading them for ideas, I do find I cook more and more from online resources mainly because it can be easier to find what you want rather than trawling through books to find it especially if you have specific ingredients to use up.

My pledge not to buy any more cook books failed today when I bought Tom Kerridge's 'Lose Weight For Good', but I will be aiming to cook from it during the next week.
