No, not a secret, as I used other folk's ideas- for which I expressed thanks!

Well one of the hints is in the quote I used from clivep:
    BM online savings (Birmingham Midshires)
    SW (Scottish Widows)
    PO Savings
    (These are his)

    Mine are:
    BM savings
couple more charity DDs @ £2
Saga Telephone savings (still waiting for some essential paperwork from them!- very slow)
Park Christmas Club- not covered by FS- but £1.66 pm adds up to 2 x £10 M&S gift cards in Nov. Think they have been in business for 50 years, so well established. Will start a new fund before that ends.
I have split all my household DDs between different a/cs (make sure you have asked for council tax to be paid in 12 rather than 10 installments)

I also discovered that a few DDs required for switch could be transferred as they weren't needed to keep a/c open

Other possibilities are buried in a couple of threads:
Local Credit Union may take DDs
Someone said that their local coronary unit had a weekly £1 lottery but you could apply for £1 per month. Yes, donation to a charity but also a chance to win a cash sum.

Of the online savers quoted above don't know which are now available as I started the juggling process over a month ago........
    HTH
I wasn't being funny when i asked if it was a secret. Some posters here are quite secretive over everything. They want all the info but will tell you zero.
The only stuff i'm secretive about is things that could actually identify who i am, anything else i couldn't give a xyz about discussing.

Regards the charity direct debits - that's something i wont be doing. Call me tight but that's my choice.

I was having a look last night at my existing direct debits on my main account and seeing what i could switch rather than opening 101 credit card accounts. For example - my mortgage payments. I'm on a fixed deal so i could move that to something like a Club Lloyds account & that same day (since the account is maxed anyway so i wont go short) transfer over the mortgage payment.

Things like that - fixed amounts. Union fees, health lottery etc.

Variables are a bit more tricky but can still be done. It'll mean being on the ball more regards what is where but it's a lot of interest payment to just throw away.

Bit concerned about my brother & sister though. They don't have 'bills' so they would need credit cards probably.

I've had this out with my work folk numerous times. Here & there it comes up in conversation and then i get the usual funny looks. I'm sure most people here know what sort of look i'm talking about.

    £9 from Halifax each month
Full interest plus cinema tickets on full (£5k) on 3 accounts with Club Lloyds, so whatever that interest is.
I used to have 3 Bank of Scotland accounts with the full £15k over the lot of them. At one point i know this totalled over £30 per month.
4 TSB accounts with the interest paid on the full £6,000 over the lot of them.
2x regular savers with First Direct at 5%.

And for what? Sitting on my PC for a few minutes sending out an application or making a transfer each month.

They laugh when i opened an account to get a £100 joining incentive only to then close it once i'd pocketed the £100. What's the point?

Well the point my friend is i just earned £100 for about 5 minutes work. Let's make it sound even more pointless and be generous to YOUR argument not mine and say it took me 10 minutes to apply. That's £100 for only 10 minutes work whereas here we are doing hard manual labour for £7plonk per hour (at the time).

What were YOU doing when i was earning that £100? Sat on the sofa stuffing your face with biscuits or guzzling your cans of special brew?

Do >I< mock how when your kids break something you just buy them another which teaches them nothing? No because that's your choice ............ just like easy free money is my choice. :j

I can understand this. If everybody knows about a trick (like Tesco's unlimited DD's), then everybody will (ab)use it, and finally it may end because of this. :(

Most people don't want to bother with such a pitiful interests, but many a little makes a mickle, and after all, the banks pay the half of our monthly house rent, or the whole car boot packed with groceries. It is worth half an hour of fiddling around with our accounts.
Or if I count the one-off incomes like switch incentives and cashbacks, we could buy a decent car from the banks' money...

    Precisely.

One thing i think people seem to be guilty of is saying that it's only £3. Not worth it for £3.

It depends how you look at it. I always think on a yearly basis but that's just my own outlook. Other people will be different & some others will be the same as me.

    So to me it's not £3 it's £36.

To me it's not a £10 spend on junk food/drink at the weekend, it's £520 (if you're doing it regular). £520 is over a weeks wage to me so then i think of it like i've just been to work for a 60 hour week (and more) grafting hard, putting up with false accusations, late finishes that i didn't want to do, being spoken to like crap from managers and the public just to go & spend it on junk food.

It helps me cut it back.

There's finding the balance because i'm not saying anyone should or that i go to work, come home & don't spend a single penny & have no enjoyment, but when i think of things in those terms it helps me focus on priorities. I want this but i NEED that so this want is going to have to wait.

Well, I just look at it like a bonus, which is why I am happy to give a small part of that bonus to charities (with GiftAid thrown in for a little extra.) I used to get nice bonuses from my credit cards but they are dwindling very fast!

Most of my friends are squirrelling away in cash ISAs ! and don't/ won't/ can't be bothered to understand the point that there are far better ways to earn decent interest.
I suggest S&S ISAs, switching current a/cs, 5% regular savers but generally it's "too much hassle"
They laugh at how many a/cs I have , but I'm the one laughing all the way to or from the bank!!

Just discovered I am going to have to chase up my Saga telephone saver on Tuesday- no welcome pack/letter after weeks and no DD set up yet- and I am relying on that.
Once my Yorks Bank pays out that 'little' bonus I can switch the last required DD and cancel all the Tesco ones...
oh and let my accounts 're-cycle' money and earn small bonuses without any more work on my part.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
