Nuisance neighbour causing parking mayhem

  • Fair point - it was people on here suggesting I check Companies House. Obviously the work done by this company is at client sites rather than a fixed location - the problem I'm having is the amount of clients continually coming to that address. Running a business from these properties is against the covenants so how can it be allowed to register a business there?

Honestly I don't want to drop this guy in it and ruin his business, I just want him to ensure his clients park out of the way and stop blocking my drive.

From what you have said it seems as if the problem isn't really the visitors. It's the van parked in the visitor bay. If that wasn't there legitimate visitors would be able to park without impeding your access. Perhaps the visitor bay needs to be clearly marked by the management company as 'Visitors Parking Only'. If the bay was marked then #1 couldn't claim it was his parking bay.
  • That's an idea but it still wouldn't stop them parking the van there. Right now they have a car there and their van on their own bay so it's not just the van they put there.

I lived in a street with inconsiderate neighbours parking and blocking my drive way all the time. They simply chose to ignore the problem and always apologetic when I asked them to move but it was a real pain and they never changed their inconsiderate ways. One early morning I needed to leave at 4am and an unknown car was blocking me in so I knocked on all neighbours and woke them up asking them to move the car. It actually wasn't any nearby neighbours car so I called the police and a sleepy eyed idiot from another street apologised. After that I very rarely got blocked in.

However I concluded that inconsiderate neighbours never change, you can't easily make them change when it doesn't affect them personally.

My next house had no chance of being blocked in by idiotic neighbours but I know that's no much help to the OP.

The owners of the ruined grassed area may be interested.

We had new neighbours opposite, about two years ago,who are were young and renting from the family of an old couple ,who went into care/died. They used to have lots of visitors in vans and cars, several of whom parked partly on the grass verges in front of their own and the next two houses. The heavier vehicles really churned up the verge, making them both unsightly and dangerous to pedestrians crossing it in the dark.

One of the neighbours, most affected ,complained to the council and the couple got a letter threatening action if the parking wasn't curtailed. It didn't reduce for quite a while then the number of visitors suddenly dropped, enabling all to park correctly on the roadside, so perhaps the couple received a further warning, as there has been no problem for over a year and the verge has been repaired.

But this is private land and road so council will not be interested
  • Indeed it is private, but you would think the estate management would take a firm hand against this kind of thing too with it being their responsibility. Only one way to find out.

I mention the owner being interested. It just happens that the council is the owner in the case I outlined.

Are you at home during the day? There’s not a chance these clients are roofing clients. I run a significant sized building company from home and I can count the number of client visits to my house on one finger. Our registered address was Home, now it is our accountant’s office. Your roofer friend may have moved from his accountant’s office.

I’m just wondering if the girlfriend is running some sort of beauty business or similar (if it isn’t drugs :o)? Unlikely to be incorporated at Companies House.

I think your most sensible answer came many posts back. Park your car in a way that people can’t fit in that shared area. It may well be that you shouldn’t have to, but if it solves a problem cheaply then it’s the best solution for you.

And then perhaps a little more investigative work into the purpose of these visitors if it’s so regular.
