He could always text her asking for her reg number.

She sounds like a complete tool. But that doesn't really change much. He still has the choice of paying or notifying the insurer and trying to explain why he failed to notify them straight away as per the policies terms and conditions. The insurer will phone her and deal with the court claim. They will most likely just pay it anyway so unlikely to reach court.

£325 is very reasonable for a body work repair. It makes no difference to the cost how old the car is or how abusive she was.

Your BF damaged her vehicle. He can pay up or go to court.

About 7 weeks ago my boyfriend ... hit a... car door on the roadside whilst reversing.

My boyfriend ... asked if it would be ok to deal with the problem privately...outside of insurance.

Last week by boyfriend receives a county court order through the post demanding £325 be paid.

The question I have is....how is best to deal with this?

    A) pay the £325

Why is there any question over this?

All the rest is fluff. He damaged her car, it's now two months later and he's still not paid.

If ever someone says "let me pay for damage I caused"
Response is, "give me your insurance details" :rotfl:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this. Seems quite straightforward to me.

As previously advised your boyfriend MUST inform his insurer now about the incident and pass the court claim received to them to deal with.

(There is no point him now trying to keep his insurer out of this! And there is the possibility of further claims as you have been advised - children have until they are 21 years old to make injury claims!!)

Unfortunate, isn't it? For minor low-cost damage, it's the best solution - but when people extract the Michael...

Is the letter a LBA/LBC or is it a Judgement handed down in a small claims court. If it is judgement, it would: -

    a) be weird that no LBA/LBC was received and that your bf was not given the chance to defend it in court

    b) need to be paid within the time specified on the judgement.

It might be that it is a warning of impending court action!
