  • Using trackers doesn't release you from all management obligations. You need to tend the garden a bit to keep allocations within your preset limits or maybe adjust the allocation as your circumstances change. Your management should be strategic rather than tactical. It's true that if you have target date retirement fund a lot of that will be on auto-pilot, but you still need to be involved as the worst thing is to ignore your finances.
I'm using lifestrategy at present so it rebalances for me yes? I used to do the odd individual stock and invested in invesco perpetual as that's what a previous Ifa contact of mine recommended but I decided to go it alone in the end as I dont have nearly enough to consider using an Ifa atm.
My portfolio is fairly simple I think. Age 37. Just under 28% non pensions net worth cash. 50% stocks and shares in isa lifestrategy 100. 12% net worth in p2p. 10% in SAYE and spp with work Majority of my long term savings jn a work pension paying. 0.45% charge with aegon in their global equity tracker . I'll wait till I have more before tinkering if I do at all

Are global/Western market dominated tracker funds generally considered lower risk investment options? That's the impression I've got from my reading. You diversify a bit and then you have some trackers to follow the market.

Trackers as you say follow the market. When bubbles build. The bubble self perpetuates. As the fund is forced to buy the same stock everyone else is buying. Trackers serve a purpose. Following them blindly in a long term bull market could potentially have disappointing results. As there's benefit to be had from market volatility.
