Aaargh!! This WOULD happen at Xmas wouldnt it!! Dropped two bags of laundry off for a service wash on way to work. Called in to collect it - the wonan never asked for the ticket i was given when i dropped it off, just gave me ONE laundry bag. I checked inside and didnt recognise anything. She then said oh hold on, there was someone else in earleir with same name as you , I gave them to him!
Obviously I am annoyed - clothes include our everyday clothes as well as work uniforms, kids clothes and school uniform, babys cot bedding.
The woman said she assumes the other person will come back but considering hes had my washing a whole day its not looking likely is it? Then had to the nerve to say she would knock a quid off for the inconvenience.. wanted me to pay for the laundry she has given to another customer !
I am going to pop back in tomorrow but as both me and my partner are at work all day we are a bit stumped. The launderette closes tomorrow at 2 and doesnt re open til january!
Assuming the clothes are returned how would i go about getting the cost of new clothing reimbursed from the launderette?

If the clothes are returned you are back to where you should be. If they are not returned the laundrette will not replace old clothes with new. You will get the cost to replace worn clothes, not a lot I’m afraid.0 -
Sorry, meant ISNT returned, i am stunned at how complacent they are being. Just to reolace the three pairs of jeans is a minimum of sixty pounds. School uniforn..again about 60 with PE kit0

I’m sure the guy wants his own washing too. He probably hadn’t checked it by the time you went. It’s a busy time of year!
Does she have your number now to call you when he turns up? I’m sure he will. Most of us prefer our own clothes to other people’s. His own are missing too, remember.
I can’t help laughing at her offer to knock a pound off. That is truly ridiculous!
I’m sure you’ll have some good news today.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Why is this on the DIY board?0 -
When I drop things at our local cleaner/laundry, they take an address and a phone number for eventualities such as these. Obviously they didn't in this case but worth checking with the laundry??
Might be better posting on Consumer Rights board.0 -
If a laundry lost my clothes they would be giving me money for new clothes.
The idea that 'old for old' applies when it comes to lost clothes is ludicrous.
How would I go about it? Legal means if I had to, but I'd expect them to settle way before that (probably about the time I set up my placards and loudhailer...).0 -
If the clothes don't turn up then you have to write a Letter Before Action, look up some templates online. If they refuse to pay for your replacement items then you take them to small claims court. Make sure you get the legal name of the company and not the name of the shopChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Got them back! I phoned them several times today, the other person hadnt returned the washing. This afternoon a member of staff came in who had an idea where the person lives but there was no answer - probably at work, They popped a note thru the door with the launderette owners mobile and he called at 7pm then dropped the washing at the launderette. To be fair, she could ve just locked up and gone home at 5pm then we wouldve been truly stuffed! I do wonder though why it never occurred to the person who got my laundry...he dropped off ONE half full black bag and went home with two full to the brim bags.. anyhow thanks for all your help. sorted now.0

Maybe someone else handed in / collected his laundry?
