used car on a budget, is diesel still an option

Not really for the faint hearted.
Ultimately for the O/P its down to either putting their budget in to something relatively fresh and less likely to be problematic, or take a punt on something cheap though older / higher miles, but potentially higher risk.
I suspect the former.
LOL, agreed on both counts

Thanks for the links, I have more idea of age and mileage. I imagine that can make it as a good car.
i found this, sorry did not let me show it, it is a hyunday i30 2009 83.5k 1.4 petrol £2995 I am not sure thought it is something to consider, it is a place where they do mots and fix cars. because it is a trader should i assume it is hpi clear? why does that the registration number is covered? i have seen this to be good for insurance too.
I saw volkwagen polo and golf... those seems to be a bit more pricey than focus and fiesta.
focus seems to be a nice car that I would like to look for...
many thanks!0 -
I want a car with a safe feeling and reliable to carrying my daughter with me and a bit roomy.
If you want a car that actually is safe, rather than just feeling safe, then look up the Euro NCAP rating of any car you're thinking of buying. Some small cars get a 5 star rating. Some bigger ones don't even get close to that.
While 4x4s normally come off better in a collision with a smaller car, they do have a nasty tendency to roll after an accident. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
10K pa is the typical break point for diesel over petrol, if you are between 5 and 10K then it's unlikely that diesel will be more economic. No free lunch, and no free laptop
