Simply Be and other catalogues

Hello All
Strange one here. I received a statement from Simply be (not used the account for years) the statements had three lines
Balance Suspended for Enquiries £5122
Refund -£5122
Balance £0.00

At first I thought my account may have been used fradulantly so I called them. The customer service rep said he wasn't sure and has to call a department that 'do not take calls'. He came back and asked if I have ever has a PPI claims with them and I said yes four or five years ago and it was not upheld. He said that there were problems and that this was a refund and I'll be due cheque soon.

My mother has had the exact same wording on a statement and phone call (JD Williams).

I can't help but wonder thoguht, this is very peculiar. I did put in a complaint and it was refuses but they sent a goodwill gesture for about £150.

I would love to receive £5000 but just wondering if it's genuine!

Has anyone received similar?

    Hello
Just update that Simply Be/JD Williams have upheld my complaint that they previously rejected in 2013

    Cheque received for £5122.
My Mum also received the same

Nice start to 2018 and will clear half my debt :-)
  • Hi c1403, can I ask a quick question please? How did you know you had PPI with Simply Be? I have an account with them and am wondering of maybe I have PPI with them also? Thanks in advance

I am sure it was written on one of my statements. However I sent complaints to all companies I had accounts with (credit cards, loans, store cards and catalogues) even if I wasn't sure it had PPI on.
  • Thanks c1403, will look into this tomorrow, I didn't even think about Simply Be in regard to PPI.
