New Generation Parking Management Photo "proof"

I live in a private apartment complex and as part of that we have visitor parking in which you get a ticket from a machine and can park for 24 hours in a visitor bay. This is managed by a company called New Generation Parking Management.
I've just received a fine from them stating I didn't display a ticket on a certain date I was parked there. I 100% got a ticket but given it was a extremely windy day maybe it was blown off the dash but I no longer have that ticket. The only thing they've given as "proof" is a picture of the back of my car in the parking bay in the dark... Since this doesn't actually "prove" I've not got a ticket displayed (no pictures of the front bizarrely) would an appeal on those grounds work? Surely they can't fine you without actually providing any proof?
On a side note, can I just refuse to pay this given it's a private ticket. I'm not sure if the laws have changed on this as they keep mentioning laws have changed in the letter and it must be paid...funnily enough.

I may be missing it but I can't see anything in there regarding proof of no ticket?0

NO IT ISN'T. AND YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIFICS - FORGET THE DETAIL, THESE CASES ARE ALL THE SAME.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You need to get out of the mindset that involves proof, fact or expects any kind of responsible/legitimate behaviour from a PPC.
These guys just wnt money and any excuse to get it out of you will do!0 -
From what I've read it doesn't seem like there's much in it for them taking it as far as court given even if you lose at that stage you'll only pay the fine regardless but now they've had to pay court fees :S0

Curious why you had to park in a visitor bay in a complex where you live. What does your lease/deeds say about parking? You say that visitors have to pay but do residents?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I have a parking spot but my other half (who is a visitor) was parked in my spot from earlier in the day so instead of swapping cars out that night I just got a visitor ticket and parked in one of those bays overnight instead.
It's not a pay and display, just a ticket machine to grab a ticket from, pick a visitor bay and get 24 hours parking.0 -

This lot are highly unlikely to try court, or win:

It's not a fine.
Who the heck let this nasty bunch loose near residents' cars? Ex clamper knuckle-draggers.
