B&Q home delivery - arrrrrghhhhhhh!!!!!

2nd December we went to B&Q and decided to buy a shelving unit. "Not in stock" they said, "but don't worry there is free home delivery on that". "Great" I said. They looked up the computer and we agreed on a delivery date of 13th December.

The night before I get a text from B&Q saying your delivery is scheduled for tomorrow. Great, so OH took a day off work and waited. By lunchtime she had heard nothing so rang B&Q. "No problem" the girl in the call centre said, "your delivery is definitely scheduled for today. The driver will ring half an hour or so before they arrive". And so she waited. By 8pm there was no phone call, no delivery no nothing.

So we assume B&Q will contact us. How wrong could we be. 2 days later I call them up, and after waiting on hold for 50 minutes am told the reason it wasn't delivered is because "they don't have my address". Well that's strange because it is there in black and white on the order confirmation. "It's not on the system" says the girl who then assures me that the courier will call tomorrow to rearrange the delivery.

They didn't. So after another 2 days I ring again. "We asked them to call you, I am sorry, I shall put another note on to get them to ring you tomorrow".

They didn't. So I ring yet again, and this time am told that the courier didn't try to deliver because it was damaged. But they can deliver another one on the 21st. "OK" I say, "but we are both working on the 21st". "Not a problem" she says, if you leave a note outside, the driver will leave it in your porch.

Great. Sounds like a plan. And then yesterday, I actually get a text saying it will be delivered today between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. Whohoo. Flat pack assembly here we come

So having left a note in the porch, I head to work this morning expecting a delivery to be waiting when I get back. At 10am my phone goes. It's DX who apparently are trying to find our house. You are supposed to be delivering after 3pm I say. "Dunno where you got that idea from" the bloke says, "we're trying to find your house now".

"Well I'm not in, but you can leave it in the porch".

"Nah can't do that mate, we need someone to sign for it".

"No no you don't understand, I spoke to B&Q and they said you would leave it in my porch, I left you a note and everything".

"Nah mate they dunno what they are talking about. We don't do that".

"Well can you call them - they definitely said that would be OK. Or can you wait a bit, I could leave work and be there in about 20 minutes?"

"Nah mate, we can't do that". We'll have to take it back to the depot.

And so 3 weeks, 2 attempted deliveries and over 2 hours spent on hold (B&Q have no live chat), I still have no ruddy shelving unit and am faced with sitting on hold once again to cancel the blooming order".:mad:

Next time we are going to Ikea. :(

  • I feel your pain. Just had similar scenario with Dunelm Mill. 3 weeks, 3 failed deliveries and 2 hours on hold. Useless companies
