Forget the hastle, write it off and move on.As others have said never lend money to friends or family if you expect it paid back, look upon it as a gift and if it comes back thats a plus.0

Hi k8elou
Scenarios like this are very tricky and only you can really gauge what matters most, whether that be principle or instead just drawing a line under it. You say the amount in question is "only" £176 which suggests that if push comes to shove you can do without this money, but in theory you might feel just as strongly if the amount owed were £5, and that is your prerogative. I would suggest though that whatever happens, in the long run the true loser is the party who's lost the trust of a friend, and how does one put a figure on that?

Best of luck. Whilst Judge Rinder is TV it is conducted as a county court hearing with the same levels of proof required and the show is littered with claims like this where the claimant has lost.
Do you have travel insurance? Can you claim on that? What options are there for a refund on the flight from the airline? These are all options that you would be expected to pursue first before putting in a claim as the onus is on you to some extent to mitigate your losses. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It's £176. Can you find someone (who you like and get along with) to stump up, say, half that and come with you instead?
Write off the rest to experience. What is your nephew's position on this? Surely, even as an 'injured party' he has some responsibility?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Unless you have a written agreement as evidence of your claim, I wouldn’t bother.
