I now get an email every day with the “daily deal” During January there have mostly been self help books. As I am beyond help they do not interest me.
However today the great book The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler at £1.99 12 hours of Phillip Marlow got me to spend the money.
Have to agree with you there. The daily deals in January have been beyond woeful - it's a real shame as up to the last few months the daily deals were very good.
When they changed the daily deals to members only they promised it would be even better than ever - don't think so.0 -
Any advice on the best site to sign up with for kids books, would be much appreciated.
Looking for The Diamond Brothers especially (Antony Horowitz)
thanks in advance.
Have you tried your local library? I have used the Leicester library for many books and they have plenty of children’s audio and kindle books for free.
Or the Gutenberg press have a huge library of the classics.

Today’s daily deal is a Wilber Smith novel Courtney’s War for £1.99
I read some Wilber Smith Perhaps 30 years ago so I have fallen to temptation today.
I hope I have not thrown £1.99 on the floor. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
A few more points to add about Audible:
They are the only service I know of that will refund you if you don't like the book. That takes the risk out of picking books.
They often have sales of various kinds, including 241 sales, where you can choose two books (from a list) for a single credit. As the cheapest credit costs £3.66, that means each book costs £1.83.koru1 -
Google Play just sells audiobooks for cash.

Cheaper than Audible's prices for cash, but almost always more expensive than an Audible credit.koru0 -
The iTunes store is very similar to Google Play in business model and pricing.koru0

8 months on from my last post and 10 months in to my Christmas present of 12 Months with 12 credits with Audible.
First to say the Wilber Smith novel earned an 8/10 from me.
As mentioned above the opportunity to return for me is a winner. I have returned for full credit about five books (including book 4 and 5 from the Stieg Larson writer for hire)
I now have two credits left but have been tempted a few times by the daily deals at £1.99 and £2.99
The daily deals are ONLY available if you have a contract and if you don’t extend the contract the credits expire after six months.
That is no issue as my wife already knows what I want for this Christmas.
A small downside is the reviews. Everyone has their own taste as I have mine. However the return option is VERY valuable but I need to find an answer to wasting a few hours listening to something that I ultimately return. As an optimist I always think it will get better.
Next time I am in uncharted waters I must decide after one hour. I need to be more pessimistic! There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

You mean on Audible? Pretty good price. The cash back is now £7.35 (or £7.70 on Quidco), but even so it means the net price per book is £1.42.
That is a super price and is perfect if you are able to mix and match your audio books with free from your local library.
I don’t use cash back as I live outside the UK so I presently have to manage with the Christmas present that was £69.99 for 12 books plus one free. This makes the average £5.38 a book.
As I mentioned in post 38 I have bought additional books at £1.99 and £2.99 from the daily deals and others on 241 promotions.
At the end of this year I will analyse my years spending and report. I would add that until this years Audible present I had enjoyed many free books from a UK local library.
I believe each library have a different selection
I am reluctant to trawl through acquaintances not living in my Town of birth asking for access to their U.K. library membership. For one it may be embarrassing to find out that they don’t belong to a “free” library. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0
