should my wife apply for credit using maiden or married name?

We got married 2 months ago and my wife is still updating her name for driving licence, banks, passport, utilities etc. She is just about there, but some are still coming through.

She recently applied for a TSP Classic account but her application was rejected. I believe this may be because she applied in her married name, and the application would have been subject a credit check.

I signed her up for Experian, again using her married name, but we got an error when attempting to verify her identity as it said it was unable to verify.

Now, we are planning to take out a 25k loan later this week. Should she put her maiden name down on the loan application?

From a simple bank account, to a 25k loan in the same week, wow.

I have a feeling you should just wait until the system updates itself.

Failed application for a current account and a new 25k loan application.

Is this loan the deposit for your Mortgage you wanted?

just tell her existing lenders to update and it will filter through, surprised at the bank account though as it asks have you been known by another name
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

yes, there was an offer on the TSB account where you get £130 cashback! But sadly no cashback for her.

    You're kidding me right??

Yes, we can definitely afford it over a 5 year term

OK if it isn't for the mortgage what's it for? Taking out such a large loan shortly before applying for a mortgage would not be seen favourably by the lender.

  • Home improvements. We already have a mortgage, but haven't yet accumulated enough equity (85%) to borrow against it
