What to do re dealership advice Fiat 500

Options
I had my brake pads and discs replaced by quick fit in October 2016 . I took my 5 year old Fiat 500 in to my Fiat dealership for a much overdue service and mentioned my brakes were noisy . The advice was that my brakes were binding and I needed a new calliper / cylinder. I didn’t have the work done as I wanted a second opinion. Went back to quick fit for a check and they say the brakes are absolutely fine and greased the calliper ( just in case ) . Should I complain to the dealership that they wanted to do work that isn’t needed? Am a lone female very reliant on the correct advice , but not happy to be ripped off

    Don't use Kwick Fit then.

For the love of God and all the saints stop going to Kwik Fitt. They have already spanked you once.

I know who I am more inclined to believe and its not Kwik fit.

Binding callipers will often behave for a few days or weeks when the sliders and pistons are disturbed before binding again. A binding calliper can damage the tyre or wheel bearing if not corrected. Get a third opinion from a recommended independent who values repeat custom over quick profit.
  • Got to admit that this seems to be different to the normal Kwik Fit we all know and love. Normally it would be the Fiat dealer saying its all ok and Kwikfit saying you should not leave without them changing everything in the car. Maybe a third opinion?
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

if the brakes are noisy (as OP suggests) then clearly there is something wrong, maybe the fiat dealership is right, 1st time for everything.

what does grease the calipers means, if it means the slider pins then that will take a bit of time and unlikely KF would do it for free

What sort of noise? Is it just one corner, or several? Is the noisy wheel warmer to the touch after a long run? Are the pads on that corner wearing faster, and leaving more dust on that wheel? Is the car pulling under braking, or when you coast?

    I'm guessing anyone using the
lone female very reliant on the correct advice
excuse wouldn't have a clue as to the answer to most if not all of those questions.

They're all trivially easy to diagnose, with or without any gender-based patronising.

The absolute most technical ability needed is removing a wheel - the description of which has been part of the driving test for a decade and a half - and even that's not needed to see if there's more dust on one wheel than another...
