Too many holidays allocated, will I get paid?

  • I know it’s not the individual’s fault to a certain extent but if I was one of those unaffected I’d be annoyed that not only were you having the time off but being paid for it as well

I would not be expecting to get paid for it and if I did it would be a bonus, I most certainly would not be looking at where I stood legally with this. They have agreed to honor the leave I would expect to either not be paid or have to work the extra hours at some other time.

In theory you would never know about it.

Same as I started a 6 month assignment with someone with pre authorised 2 weeks holiday fairly swiftly after starting, funny thing was for 10 weeks worked only 1 day was payable, discovered only on leaving as even sitting very much under manager's direction leave was booked and allowed that hadn't even accrued (so I've no idea how the ex colleague faired over same period..) would never had asked as is often the rule you don't ask a colleague their salary, so why would whether their holiday was paid. Take recent job how does it manage to work out just shy 5 weeks gives 24 hours holiday in said period when one of these portals deems someone 10 weeks into a job as 'eligible' for 1 days holiday!?

Where I worked with one of these dreadful portals in place, the one thing I do clearly remember was never being told how much leave you had, like some places you start and they will actually work your leave entitlement out and confirm, if for example you start part way through holiday year, oh no not with these portals which are probably working toward eradicating paid employee holidays altogether, a your fault not ours mantra all the way.

    What are you talking about?

Leave is very simple to calculate.

I understand it’s not difficult to keep track of, but it’s a company in which there’s no need to do so in when there’s a system in place to state how many holidays you have left. Not that I’m disagreeing with you, it’s just something I wanted to check.

They have system in place to pay you, don't you bother checking that is right.
