Too many holidays allocated, will I get paid?

Ok so basically in my place of employment there’s an online system in which we use to request holidays and once they’re granted theyre shown as confirmed through this system.
We were told in work today that the system we use has allocated too many holidays to people due to system error, I was one of these people that had already used all my holidays. The thing is i have holidays confirmed through the system for now until new year, management is allowing us to take the time which we already have confirmed through the system but can’t guarantee we will be paid for them. The main manager basically said he thinks we should get paid for the time off but can’t guarantee it, how do we stand regarding this issue legally? Should we be paid or is it a case of since we’ve been told about the issue they don’t have to pay us? I know certain contracts state if you take too many holidays we can be forced to repay it throughout our next earnings or by working additional hours but I’m unsure about his situation.

You claimed too many holidays. Future holidays should be cancelled. Hours owed should be worked.0

Quite blunt but thanks for the response I guess, they’ve not even been able to tell everyone who’s been allocated too many holidays so where do they stand?0

to be honest I think you are lucky they are honouring the time off
I wouldn't expect to get paid on top (and tbh I'd be annoyed if I were one of the ones who had correctly kept track of my annual leave and others who hadn't got rewarded for their carelessness)0 -

Well it's your job to make sure you use your holiday. Keeping track of 28 days (or however many you get) isn't difficult.
In many jobs this could lead to disciplinary.
Their position isn't relevant. Yours is though and they seem to know for sure you have overused.0 -
Unless the company decides to foot your holiday pay themselves then you will not be paid for the extra holiday.0

I understand it’s not difficult to keep track of, but it’s a company in which there’s no need to do so in when there’s a system in place to state how many holidays you have left. Not that I’m disagreeing with you, it’s just something I wanted to check.0 -

No I understand.
But it look bad in other ways, either it's lack of attention to detail, or dishonesty - neither are good0 -
I use a similar system at work but also keep a manual record, not just in case of system errors but so I can plan ahead. I also try to keep a couple of days back for unforeseen emergencies.
Its annoying but I'd say its partly your responsibility to check. If you were paid too much you would have to pay it back. If I were the manager in this case I'd say you cancel it or if its leave that you really can't cancel you must take it unpaid or have it deducted from next years balance.0 -
No matter what the company use (manual or computerised), I always keep my own record of what holidays I've booked/had for my own peace of mind and any discrepancies can get sorted out at the time.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £30,358.130

You do need to take some responsibility for not taking more holiday than you are entitled to. You can't expect to be paid for more than your contracted holiday.0
