Windows Direct-Southend on Sea

I am cross after dealing with the ownder of this company today.
Background. Had new windows/facias/soffits fitted 6 years ago.
Last wednesday had near fire at my house. got firemen out intime. Disaster averted.
Basically when Windows Direct put the soffits up they failed to remove an outdoor light. Unknown to me btw. I'd not been in the house long & had never noticed an outdoor light.
There has always been a switch in the boiler cupbaord that has never worked/done anything.
LAst week I needed the boiler repaired.
The plumber must've switched on the switch.
This is when I discover what the switch does & what its connected to. Well when the light has burnt through the soffit & the wood has 'caught'.
As I say I got the firebrigade out in time.
So last Thurs I call windows direct & explain to them.
Basically I was expecting an apology. Not a lot else could be done. Lets face it, it was 6 years ago. I am reasonable enough to see that.
Woman says they know nothing about it as it was 6 years ago. So I say neither did I until it burnt through my soffits.
She said she'd get the owner to get back to me.
Which he did this afternoon.
He came out. Now I was expecting him to be apologetic.
Nope. He said his company were not to blame as anyone could have put the light there.
So I asked him how would a rusty old light be put up there???
So he says he doesn't know & asked me what I expected him to do about it. He was very arrogant.
So I said well thank you for coming but goodbye. as I was quite shocked at his attitude.
Was an apology too much to ask. Of course there is noone to blame, he didn't actually carry out the work. But it was his company.
Oh if I hadn't spotted it when I did & it had caught, it was outside my daughters bedroom window. I dread to think of the outcome if that had happened.

Crikey! That's customer service at its worst!
At the very least I'd expect an apology, and an investigation into which workers had carried out the work! A big bunch of flowers and an offer to re-fit the window would be a bonus...
But to not even apologise, even though you're not asking them for compensation, is just disgusting and down right rude!
I would write to the managing director of the company, and maybe even to the local paper!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
he's the owner of the company, there is noone else I can go to.
I have rung the local paper, more cos I am cross than anything else.
I don;t want anything, just an apology.
I even have to pay my insurance a £100 excess but I thought, thats life. My premiums will go up as well. Again, just the way it is.
Sorry isn't hard is it!
I am on a rant! Sorry!

The owner would take such a stance as any form of apology however small could be taken as some form of admission of liabillity - which he wouldn't be prepared to do.
Perhaps it would be prudent to have your electrical wiring checked in case there are other things you are not aware of.0 -
I also have had experience with Windows Direct in Southend on Sea. Though I cannot directly claim direct fault to anything the owner has directly done though when I had my fittings installed his own employees advised not to have small work down else I would get fleeced or assume a guarantee would not stand. You can imagine this is after the monies had been paid. So ......just be prepared, that is all I can say0

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
