Hi,
Do I need to re-plaster if I take the old wallpaper off? Please check the photos below of the wall where the wallpaper was loose and I stripped it off. It shows hairline cracks.7
More details,
I have moved into a 1950s house recently. Seems untouched since then!
Now we are at the painting decorating stage.
The walls are covered with woodchip wallpaper up to the picture rails. In my opinion it is making the house look not nice.
I want to make the walls look nice. and in case we decide to sell the house one day, I believe having this old wallpaper might deter some buyers (Am I right?)

The hairline cracks are nothing to worry about as long as the plaster is solid. i.e. No hollow sounds if you gently tap the wall with a finger - Even if you do find any patches that sound hollow, it can generally be left alone.
It looks like you might have a lime plaster on the wall which will often crack as it dries. After 60 years, any minor cracks can be ignored.
What I would do is paper the walls with a good quality heavy lining paper and paint over the top (or use a decent wallpaper). Her courage will change the world.

I am currently wallpapering my staircase, a thick blown vinyl wallpaper will cover most things. If it meets your tastes, it will be all u need.0

Stick up a layer of wallrock fibreliner. That lining paper is superb at covering things. Made one of my bedrooms look newly plastered and if you hang it well you won't see the joins.0

Would wallpaper or lining paper make reduce the price of the house if we were to sell it one day?
The last thing I want to happen is to re-plaster the whole housr before selling it to achieve the best price and living in it like that for a long time.0 -

Papered walls won't make one jot of difference to the market value of a house - The next owner will probably have different ideas on interior design and strip off anything you have stuck up.
Quit worrying about the house value and do what you like. Her courage will change the world.

What would make me favour a house when buying is painted walls with no paper. Any sign of wallpaper screams "bad plaster". Woodchip, anagylpta and lining paper strongly suggest a nightmare lurks beneath.
Basically decorate as you want to live. If you're decorating to sell, don't do it in a way that makes it look like you're trying to hide something.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

You're right there, we moved in here nearly 33 years ago and the old occupants had tried to knock through to under the stairs to fit in another kitchen cupboard, it was very badly plastered but wallpapers over nicely. We keep meaning to have it replastered, but the last person we asked for a quote refused to do such a small area and said he would only do the whole kitchen or nothing, so ended up doing nothing.
Every other wall in this house is painted and looks great. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Beat me too it.
When I redecorated the study/manpad of our old house about 5 years ago I wanted painted walls rather than wallpaper. There were a few hairline cracks in the wall which I just filled and sanded before painting, still no trace of them re-appearing when we sold the house this summer.0
