The most recent comments are from 2013, and many even earlier (yup, nine years!). Have you checked they are still relevant?

I have recently started working occasional hours as an Artist Model (Life Model)

I am a (very large) lady, I have scars from ops, I am a mature lady and not bendy or athletic. So dispel all fears of only athletic size 6 models being sought after - not true, I have had such great feedback for being interesting to draw.

You need to be able to sit still, have some imagination, be friendly and accepting if the tutor spends ages talking about your thighs. And, naturally, you need to be chilled in getting undressed in front of others.

Very happy to pass on anything learnt, and how to avoid issues. Main issue is a tutor who forgets the time!!

Payment in my area is around £15 per hour. Varies of course.
To those who are given much, much is expected

        £2025 in 2025 = £680.60
          Food Budget £180/9.30.

          1. I worked as a Life model for years, and was very sought after. Some teachers tell you a pose, but most let you decide, though within criteria for what students are learning. Length of time holding a pose ranges from 15 secs to 2 hours - you may find at first you misjudge how long you can hold different poses, its not always obvious what will ache! but with experience you soon learn! I had an intuitive understanding of what poses looked like from all angles, and was able to plan poses ahead, eg if your weight is on one leg, next pose put it on the other! You need a higher pain threshold, able to hold a pose even when it hurts - it will! -& despite being cold, patience, and the ability to occupy your mind as it can get boring.. You can earn more if you are prepared to travel - I went from Cambridge to Norwich to Sudbury, and everywhere in between. I posed for all ages & abilities, from 6th-formers to retired, complete beginners to professional artists, earning £10 to £18 per hour, between 1987 - 2016. Classes last mostly 2 hours, but I sometimes did more than one class in a day, and also did all-day workshops. I started by contacting local adult learning centres - 'evening classes' and it snowballed from there! My husband was able to tell everyone, quite truthfully, that he had married a model!!!!!
