Yes really, it doesnt matter what your password is or how complex it is ..
The docx or xlsx format is just a zip file
If you rename it as such then you can edit the files contained.
One of those is an XML file that contains text that tells the program if it is password protected or not.
You simply remove that line , save it and then rename it back to xlsx
The document then is no longer password protected !!
Its not meant to deter the determined hacker but rather as a discouragement for prying eyes0 -
dont be so silly of course you cant open a password protected word document if you dont know the password...

Absolute tripe! Are you describing the pre-Excel 2010 position, since when the password was encrypted in subsequent versions?Ethical moneysaver0 -

Sigh - pre 2010 did not use the xlsx extention
Im not arguing the point any further - use google0 -
Google is incredibly secure
Or as secure as any online presence gets anyway ..
Not as secure as a service that doesn't store the encryption keys server-side.This is the worst idea ever - I can crack those in seconds as im sure can many others
Easy to test, if somebody wanted to send you a password protected XLS file.(I know, I know...you'd have to turn the challenge down for security reasons)

You are describing how to hack a worksheet password, not a workbook password.Ethical moneysaver0

And where does an actual spreadsheet feature in this?0 -

Yes, my bad.
Although the method for a workbook is a bit more involved - it is still trivial0 -

inside excel, when you open it, you have tabs across the bottom which can contain different spreadsheets.
These are worksheets
They are contained in the workbook, which is the whole thing0
