I gave a money saving option. One that works effectively enough to remove mould. One that the op prbably has available in their house to at least give it a go before deciding they need to pay a premium for a teaspoon of caustic soda.

You seem to have countered that with ignorance and inconvenient convenience (going to the shop to buy a bottle of what is practically already beneath your sink). Youre welcome to do that but i dont think mixing bleach and water is messing around (its the same mixture i use to mop my floors) going to the shop to buy a bottle of really expensive bleach water with a bit of caustic soda chucked in is, i think, messing around.

Youre paying ~£5 for 1/2 l of mop bucket water!!!! I bet you buy evian.

    Wow, you're quite rude.

Bleach alone doesn't kill mould spores. It will bleach the black spots visible on the surface but won't stop it coming back. HG mould spray (and probably other brands, that's just the one I happen to have used) prevents it coming back for much longer. If you want an equivalent to the mould spray, you'd have to mix up the same ingredients but I don't fancy messing around with caustic soda myself. You can bleach regularly if you like and live with knowing that you're just fading the colour but I prefer to kill it once and know it won't be back any time soon. That's personal preference - we all have them so no need to be so snarky about it. Do bear in mind that a 'solution' that doesn't actually work isn't money saving.

In many cases, bleach will totally kill off the mould, especially on non porus surfaces so if the paint used in the OP's bathroom is waterproof, bleach will do the job perfectly well.

Just a couple of websites out of many.
    Does Bleach Kill Mold
Bleach kills bacteria and viruses and sanitizes the surfaces it's used on. Bleach also kills mold if it comes into contact with it. The spores and allergens from mold are neutralized as well.

Bleach will kill mold growing on non-porous surfaces like glass, tiles, bathtubs and counter tops. However bleach cannot completely kill mold growing in non-porous materials like drywall and wood. Bleach does not penetrate into these non-porous substances and so only the mold growing above the surface is killed

Bleach can kill virtually every species of indoor mold that it comes into contact with, along with its spores, leaving a surface sanitized and resistant to future mold growth.
  • x2 for HG Mould spray.
It's worked a treat in our en-suite. Well worth the £4.39 or whatever it was from the DIY shed.
  • Interesting read. Thanks for the comments.

I've heard that Anti Mould Paint is worth a try? What do you guys reckon? I just got the cheapest Ronseal one from B & Q and will try it at the weekend. Has anyone had any success with this?

    Cheers
