Humax HDR-1100S Sound

I recently purchased a Humax Freesat recorder HDR-1100S to replace the Sky Q box I had previously. If I watch HD channels or catch-up television the sound is fine. However, when I watch a SD channel I can't hear anything unless I crank the volume on my sound bar right up. The sound when I stream things using my Roku is fine too.

My set up is:
  • 32" LG television. Not sure which model, purchased 8/9 years ago.
  • Sonos soundbar
  • Humax HDR-1100S
  • Roku Streaming Stick 3400

Has anyone else come across the same problem before?

Problem may be with the Humax or the soundbar. I've noticed sometimes the opposite, that the SD channels can be louder than HD ones, on lots of different equipment.
Have a look in the settings for the Humax - there may be some output format options - PCM, encoded, compresssed, Dolby Digital, DTS, and other random sounding things.
The one that is right, is the one that has the smallest difference between channel volume.
  • Thanks, I will have a look this evening.

The volume control on the Humax remote affects the SD sound but has no effect on the HD sound. Check that you haven't inadvertently reduced the SD output using the Humax remote.

I keep the volume on the Humax at maximum and just use the AV amp volume to adjust the volume.

Thank you so much. I cranked the volume on the Humax up and problem solved.
