Just wondering if any of you guys are based in Preston? I'm looking to get my ironing done and would much rather give the money to an MSEr than anyone else!New surname New start!

when other posters have put ads on gumtree what section did you put them under? and how good a response did you get?0 -
Those who offer an ironing service, how much do you charge?
Thanks

This question has been my biggest dilemma in my setting up Caz, to make sure that I make a profit, but don't out-price myself against what the local competition are charging.
What I've done is phone all the locals up posing as a potential customer & got their prices. This didn't help as much as I thought, as they all charge in different ways !!! ie, per basket load, per hour, per item etc.
So I'm trying to pitch myself in the middle of that, at £10 per load, an average load being 20 adult items. 75p per item for children's clothing, cos I hate doing it & bedding/curtains negotiable. I have a steamer so they are not really too difficult to do, just time-consuming so after reading advice on this thread I'd rather avoid them, but will do them at the right price
This is my intended pricing at this time, not that I've gone live yet. It's all flexible though & could change as I go along.0 -
I'm thinking of giving this a shot as I'm desperate to get some cash in! If anyone is interested in the Peterborough area just give me a shout!
PS - If anyone wants to help me get my feet on the ground with advice and advertising design etc send me a PM as I would really appreciate it!November Grocery Challenge - £300 - Total so far £0.000 -
Is anybody working full-time in an ironing business? Or running one? How does it look like as a full- time self-employment business.0

We do it full time the benefits are good like if you want to go shopping you can leave the work till the afternoon and go shopping in the morning, you basically choose your own hours. Its quite easy to do just make sure you register your business within 3 months or you get a fine of £100.

Hi everyone,
I am currently working full time, I am looking to earn some extra money and this would be ideal for me to do a few days a week and maybe eventually look to do this full time.
How much are people earning from this part time/full time?
Thanks0 -

That's a lovely offer Steph & I am sure it helps a lot, I just wouldn't have the room for it lol. I've drafted into my flyer "curtains & bedding negotiable" - ie I don't want to do them, but if you want me to I will, for a price. I made this decision following your advice earlier on this thread. I have a lovely little steamer, it will do them quite easily but time-consuming.
I'm all ready to go at the moment save a van & the grant. The grant is proving so messy & I'm asking for so little, I think I'm going to manage without it if I can find a suitable van quickly. My mate is taking me to the motor auctions next week, so fingers crossed.0 -
Hello everyone, hope you're all doing good business with your ironing services!
How long does it take to get any response to ads? I know that's a kind of 'how long is a piece of string' question but I'm getting a bit despondent!
Put up ads everywhere I could in the town, on Gumtree, put out 200 flyers up to now and only one enquiry!!!!! Also, I've placed an ad in our local advertising booklet that is still in its infancy but due to be delivered to around 4,500 homes and various outlets at the beginning of April, so my fingers are crossed that this will prompt some enquiries.
Can I do anything else????Sort of running out of ideas! Any help greatly appreciated!
