Can anyone recommend a UK based trading site? I've been playing around on Plus500 and doing pretty well from that, but want a company where I'm actually buying shares that I can leave to sit long-term, but at the same time, can do some daily trading.:money:

This is a Savings & Investments forum so you won't find many day-traders. You will get more helpful answers on a gambling forum.
(Assuming you wouldn't consider "don't throw away your money by day-trading" to be a helpful answer.)0 -
Trading company shares is a highly speculative activity even for those that know what they are doing. Plus500 is even riskier than that as you are trading CFDs, I hope it is a play/demo account0

1. No, it's not a demo account.
2. No, I'm not gambling .. I'm buying low, selling high
3. Yes, I'm making profits.
4. And no, I don't have a friend on here who will recommend one.
5. Malthusian, you guys are the gamblers, not me. How many people lost their shirts in the crash of 2008? And you do realise that many financial experts are predicting another by the end of 2018? At least I close every day with a profit and don't expose myself to any long-term risks.
I was asking a genuine question, but I guess this wasn't the place to ask!:(0 -

I'm glad you're happy day-trading but I think you may need to read up on what genuine investing involves.
Yes some people will have lost money cause of various crashes (and not just the last one) but provided they have invested in a diverse and global portfolio and do not just sell everything because they've lost some money than they will have regained those losses and now be far ahead.
And yes some people are predicting a crash by the end of 2018 and eventually if people keep predicting they will eventually be right, but people were wrong when they predicted that for 2017, 2016, etc and really it doesn't matter if they are eventually proved right because any losses will eventually be regained provided you're invested in a suitable portfolio and not in a few individual shares or the latest craze.0 -

I didn't lose anything in 2008. Just because the market crashes doesn't mean you lose anything. You only lose if you sell. I bought more so was well up shortly after the crash. Of course there will be another crash, there always are crashes, it's part of investment but you only lose if you panic. Read here and people have been predicting a crash since 2011. Plenty of gains since then though.I was asking a genuine question, but I guess this wasn't the place to ask!:(Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
You might be forced to move faster than you think

If I gamble that a roulette wheel will land on red and it lands on red, is that not gambling?5. Malthusian, you guys are the gamblers, not me.
Of course we are. In a very real sense, is the man who does not buy a lottery ticket not the real gambler, because he might be throwing away a million pound fortune? Answer: No.How many people lost their shirts in the crash of 2008?
Only those who were gambling, either by day-trading, timing the market or leveraging. And you do realise that many financial experts are predicting another by the end of 2018?
Yes, of course I do. Because many financial experts predicted a crash by the end of 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 etc etc as well.At least I close every day with a profit and don't expose myself to any long-term risks.
I prefer the long term risk of a temporary but recoverable loss over the short term risk of losing my shirt any day.0
