1.8 Honda Civic or 1.6 Bmw 1 Series
Looking for a new car it'll either be a honda civic or bmw 1 series.
Owned a honda civic before loved it to bits, never gave me any trouble, however, considering a bmw 1 series now.
Both will have heated seats, navigation and cruise control.
Honda civic will be 2008-2010 vs bmw 2011-2012
What do you guys recommend?

I'd recommend going and trying both out and seeing which you prefer driving.
Honda 1.8 does seem to have a good reputation for reliability, not sure about the BM.0 -
They've put some bizarre dashboard designs in some of the more recent Civics. Make sure you are happy with the ergonomics.
Civic has a good rear seat fold so check out how the load areas can be used.0 -

They've got rid of the magic seats in the latest gen. Civic. Such a shame, I love them in mine, makes it so versatile. Doesn't affect the OP of course because the 8th gen. has them.0 -
Navigation - check how up to date the navigation is. It can be big money to have it updated and it may not have been updated since new. Unsure what the actual policy is with BMW and Honda.0

If its card or DVD based, there are usually cheap options on ebay.
I got a latest map SD card for my Passat for around £40. We also got a SD card for our Mercedes - a £500 "option" on the car, just added the card for £70.0 -

My son ran a 2008 Civic 1.8 EX with leather, nav, cruise and pan roof for 2 years. He absolutely loved it. Great car, never gave an ounce of trouble.0 -

My obsolete Merc Becker sat-nav was usually £80 a pop for a download which was copy-protected and it still has serious mapping errors - it'll take you down footpaths in North Wales. If it wasn't for the hassle of mounting the phone in the car I wouldn't bother in future with a built in satnav given how good Google is these days (except when in North Wales where the mobile phone operators haven't heard that people find the Internet useful).0 -

Oh absolutely. You're right - DEFINITELY worth checking the status, cost and options.
I was just letting people know there are options out there rather than main dealer for a lot of cars.0 -

I have a two year old Civic the 1.8 v-tec engine is smooth and refined with plenty power and I personally love the dash layout it is very user friendly, the magic rear seats give loads of rear room if you require extra load capacity.
I opted not to have the Civic with Honda sat nav option but I understand the updates through the dealers are not cheap, I prefer to use my aged yet trusty TomTom which I can transfer from vehicle to vehicle.
Would I buy another Honda, yes definitely.
All I will add is that this is my third Honda and I have never had any major problems with any of them, just regular routine service with my local Honda dealer.0 -
I would only get the BMW if I was buying an extended warranty, heard too many horror stories from colleagues, when they go wrong it’s pricey. When there’s a £3k claim the warranty is worth it!
The Honda should be much more reliable.0
