not sure what size to get,my son has just turned 5 and hasn't hardly been on his 12 inch bike so should I get him the 14 inch or 16 ich...he needs the stabilizers on as he can't ride well at all

My advice would be to get the 14". People often buy bigger bikes so they'll last longer (especially for 3-5 year olds), but my experience has been that it just results in bikes that get left in the shed for months - because the kid is too scared to ride them. I've done this with two kids now - ten years apart, and I won't make the same mistake with DS3.

My other bit of advice would echo what someone said earlier. Take the pedals and stabilisers off, and let the kid get used to balancing. We just did something like that with our 4 year old. We had picked up one of those wooden balancing bikes (mine cost a tenner from LIDL last year). DS2 has been whizzing around on it for a while, so at the weekend we took the stabilisers off his real bike, and within five minutes he was flying round the park completely unaided. I couldn't believe it. :T

You know what...I think I'm going to change that advice. If he's five, and he can't ride without stabilisers, don't get him a new bike now. Wait until he can ride the 12 inch one confidently (do the pedal thing) - then once he's mastered it you can get a bigger one. If you get a new one now it will be too big and just pile on the pressure for him, because its an even bigger mountain he's being asked to climb.:(

My 4 year old son is very tall for his age and has a 12" with stablilsers. He struggles to ride it, I thought it was cos he wasn't very good at pedalling. However took him to Halfords last week and he had a go on their 14" with stabilisers and he was much better.
Halfods have a height graph that shows you what bike is suitable for your child. Also they have loads of models out on display so you can see what suits your child. My son had a great time "playing" with the bikes and scooters, so much that he wanted to go again for a day out there!!!!!

I was going to order from Amazon but could n't resist the deal from Halfords. They also build the bike and as my husband does not believe in reading instructions that is a big plus. The bike I orderd was 20% off and then there was an offer for an extra 20% off and when I collect the bike £20 Voucher for free accessories.
Also helped by the fact that when they gave me my receipt they had undercharged me by £18:j .

bounce bike arrived here too, got left propped by the front door with no card through so if it had gone walkabout I wouldn't have known. very tempted to build it to check its ok but going to have enough trouble keeping it just in the box, might have to take it to stay at my mums!!

    Hi all

just had an email from Amazon and the bikes look good prices, just in time for christmas.:j http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=pe_11221_7966591_pe_22/?docId=1000112383

I have ordered a raleigh 14" Daisy Bike for £39.99 instead of £79.99.

Hope it helps someone out there.

  • Got my girl a raleigh 14" Daisy Bike. It is lovely but slightly bigger than her need, who is 3.5 yrs old. She likes it very much but not brave enough to ride them too much.

It is a bargain, also used £15 credit (applying Amazon Credit Card). However, the balancer is a bit tricky for the first bike as it is designed not to touch the ground at the same time, for training purpose.

If you looking for the first bike for 3-4 yrs old, I would recommend to stay with 12" first.

By the way, we did tried bikes in Decathlon before we ordered 14" at Amazon, where their 14" are much smaller, at £45.
  • As pudding mentioned, they seem to be sending out the wrong bike if you order the 14" Rumble bike. I got a Raleigh 14" Creepy Bike instead of the Rumble I ordered, so I sent it back, and I've just been given another one exactly the same. Just spoke to someone at Amazon called Simon who said that it would take a couple of days for them to check the warehouse to see why it was happening. I do hope they send the guy off with a sleeping bag and some sandwiches if it takes that long... :-(
In the meantime, only order the Rumble if you want a different bike!
