Changing to new android phone

I'm changing my phone (both are Android) and would like to transfer everything from the old phone to the new phone. I've consulted Google and am now confused.
What is the easiest way to achieve what I want to do? I've never really got to grips with Android, being much happier with a windows operating system, so please simple steps or a link to an easily understood web page. Thanks.

when you switch on your new phone it should guide you through the process. you will need your old phone charged and close to hand. changing phones is alway a good time to have a clear out. i would tidy up contacts and apps on old phone before firing up new one"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

all of your contacts, apps etc are linked to your google account so make sure you have account details to hand"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

As soon as you log into your Google account on the new phone it will set it up the same as your old one , including downloading your apps.
As long as you had it set to back up all your photos etc then they'll appearEx forum ambassador

If you've set up your contacts with google on your old phone chances are it would just be easily transferable to your new phone once you set up google. You can also save your files, images and vids to google docs and then download or access it on your new phone. Some phones would even assist users on first try.0

recent bought a new phone and on set up chose not to download all apps with the intention of only downloading apps when needed. have had the phone for a month now and only downloaded around 20% of the apps i had previously installed."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Thanks for all the responses. I'll have to check my current phone's settings but I probably didn't set it up to back up everything to Google.
I'd like a nice app that would allow me to dump everything from my current phone onto my computer and then transfer it to the new phone with all apps, email accounts, passwords, chats, sms, call logs etc. intact.
I know this probably isn't the modern way but I'm not a huge fan of dumping everthing onto Google's servers.0 -

I understand, but that is the way all mobile phones work nowadays0 -
Trust me - If you are signed into your phone with a google account (which you must be to download apps) then they will have all that anyway
