Why this job ?do you want

Ive got a job interview next week and one of the questions the internet says may be asked is "Why do you want this job ? "

The honest answer is that it pays more than my current one and it sounds like i will be doing very similar activities to what i do now. Im asuming an intervewer doesnt want to hear this. How can i rephrase this answer or do you have any other suggested answers

Find something specific about the company. Are they the market leaders in what they do? Do they have a good reputation for excellent service or a special product? Do they have more development opportunities ? Try to do some research and then come up with something linked to the organisation.

You are going to have to find a better answer than "It's better money". It may be the truth but the immediate thought for the interviewer will be that as soon as another job comes up with better pay you'll be off again.

Whats different about the potential employer ?

Dont give the "it pays more" answer. Your the 1 applying for the job so nèeds to be your answer.

Don't say you want the job because it's better money, maybe say something along the lines of you have progressed as far as you can with your current employer and want to move on?

Fundamentally, it doesn't really matter what you say because I believe either your 'face' fits or it doesn't...so it as much about good luck than anything else, imho.

A better way of saying I want it because it pays more is: "This job is more in line with my long term financial targets." Spins greed as fiscally prudent foresight.

I can see that this work is broadly similar to the work I have been doing, but I want exposure to new methods and processes, and I have heard really good things about your company. I think this job would actually give me the opportunity to learn quite a lot.' (Have some examples ready, if you can.)

Be prepared with examples when you are then asked what sort of things you've heard.

I agree with the previous replies and would say something positive about the company. You could say it will help increase your skills and experience as your looking for a challenging and rewarding role.
