I need to transfer some money from my Italian bank account to my UK bank

Hi guys,

So, I’ve some money on an Italian account, but I don’t have the physical card with me right now (it expired last month and they sent me a new one to my address in Italy).

I need to transfer the money that I’ve there to my UK bank account, but I don’t want to send them with an international transfer because they’ll charge me too much commissions (also, I don't think I can do it because I don't have the card with me and I need to generate a code for every online transaction by using the card + PINsentry).

I used to top-up my Revolut card from my Italian bank account and then I’ll just send the money from Revolut to my UK bank. I wasn’t paying anything at all by doing this, by unfortunately I’ve reached the annual limit of £25k on my Revolut account and I’ll have to wait until next year.

How can I do this? Ideally I’d need the money between today and tomorrow.

Thank you!

I think you need to be cautious about having your account closed due to money laundering concerns.

Based on your post elsewhere about working part-time on minimum wage, if your income from working is dwarfed by cash transfers through circuitous routes from overseas accounts, there is a risk of your activities looking suspicious.

I'm not suggesting you are doing anything wrong, but what you consider to be an innocent method of avoiding paying fees might look to a bank like something they wouldn't want to be involved in.

People have had their accounts closed down for far less.

If the money has to be with you by today (Sunday!) or tomorrow it ain't going to happen.
If you have access to internet banking with your italian bank then do an international transfer and bite the bullet with the charges.
If you do SEPA transfer tomorrow it should be in your UK bank account by end of business on Tuesday.

But the OP has already said they don't have their card so can't generate the necessary code to do a transfer in internet banking.

OP, I think your only options are to phone your bank in Italy to see if they will initiate the transfer by an instruction from you outside of internet banking, or fly to Italy and pick up your new card. But I agree with jones that neither method will get the money to the UK as quickly as you seem to need it.

[I suppose a third method would be to fly to Italy, take out the money in cash, fly back to the UK the same day, convert Euros to sterling and deposit the cash in your UK account, but I wouldn't recommend it]

You can request an increased limit, although they will probably ask about source of funds. Perhaps you know already.

Let me see if I have this straight: You want to transfer money internationally but you don't want to do an international transfer?

    My response is unintelligible gibberish!

You manage to get it sorted OP ?
  • Yep. Revolut increased my limit of another thousand pounds and I was able to transfer some money. :) Thanks!
