Get an independent report from another company, either a local upholstery firm who can produce a report for you or someone like Homeserve Furniture Repairs (people we've used and recommend) or Castellan. It should cost about £120 including VAT. If you didn't pay with finance or credit card, small claims court would be a good bet.
Daily plumping would be a reasonable recommendation for a high maintenance filling, like feathers. But not for foam and fibre, that's just silly.
I can't recommend the furniture ombudsman, the only contact I've had was when they called to try and sell their services.

Thanks that's very helpful. I think I will organise for a report to be done next so thanks for the recommendations. We purchased the sofa online and paid with Mastercard so we should be protected by Section 75. Failing that I will go down the small claims route
  • I am having the exact same problem - technician said the same thing to me today word for word. I can't afford £120 for a report right now. Is there any alternative? What is achieved by going down the small claims route do you hope to get your money back?
  • Depending on the size of the claim it might cost you close to £120 to go that way too....

I very much got the impression that the technician that visited us was the human equivalent of copy-and-paste, going from house to house destroying the hopes and dreams of sofa hopefuls all over town.

I think my approach will be to get my own report done by a local professional who will quote for the cost of replacing the filling with something that lasts, and present this at the small claims court.

Got in contact with Homeserve and with Castellan. Both are seemingly now the same company. It was a difficult process to book in so in the end I had to abandon it - only available in my area between 8am and 1pm on Thursdays, could not narrow it down to 8am - 12pm, wanted payment up front, loss of fee if not in during the agreed time window. Also, I was warned that they would only comment on the presence or absence of a manufacturing defect. She mentioned they 'work with M&S' which made me worry that it would be a David vs Goliath contest, Homeserve siding with the latter....

Anyone by any chance know a reputable furniture repair shop in Greater London that would do this?

(I have called a couple, one guy laughed at me because he could not waste his time on 'that kind of awful work'!!)
