How to use writing stencils?

I have posted in techie forum because I don't know where else to seek advice. I purchased some writing stencils from ebay. That are calligraphy and standard upper and lower case. I hoped to use the calligraphy to write Xmas cards. I had a little practice with a biro but it just isn't working. If I use a smooth ball point will that do it or am I supposed to use a spray ink?.

Depends on the size, small ones a pen with a very very fine tip.
Biro = writing your shopping list on a bit of scrap paper.
How big are these stencils?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I should think the Stabilo pens would work well.0

You probably need to use an italic nib, maybe on a fountain pen.0

Try using pencil with the stencil, and then tracing over it in pen.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thank you to everyone who replied and gave advice. The biggest stencil is oneinchthen half a inch, 10mm then 5mm. I also received a bonus upper and lower case letters and numerals stencil in 8mm sizes. The stencils are good quality given that they only cost me £3.00.0

Got mine from the £ shop. Bundle of different sizes, i keep some to use with pens/pencils and some dirty ones for painting.
If using paint test to see if it will melt with the solvents used
