I rarely flame a company and I believe this post need to be in this specific forum and not rants and raves as it may save a couple of people a few minutes of their lives.
I would like to advise any potential customers that M&S are pulling a couple of fast ones. Through moneysupermarket their quote was great, however once you click through to the site they manipulate the data you provide. The first thing is that they add a claim which can't be removed, pushing up the quote considerabley. So naturally one tries to get a new quote. Once this process is complete the quote is 35% higher, even though all the data provided is the best possible, e.g. no claims, off street, etc.
I tried to go through the webiste to contact them about these anomalies and to my surprise (or not) this function does not work. The words "incompetant" and "misleading" spring to mind.

I have been getting quotes recently and M&S came out well. You can remove any incorrect claims - I had to amend claims details myself and it does let you remove them.0 -
You need to read before you act - or post. It's quite clear that Moneysupermarket, because of the very limited questions, doesn't claim to provide refined quotes (see Martin's advice on the main site). So when you get onto the appropriate insurer's site, it's virtually inevitable the quote will vary once you start to add the sort of data that Moneysupermarket doesn't capture.
If you want a search engine / screenscraper that gives more accurate quotes - then use the ones (confused.com etc) that take you 15 mins to complete rather than the 30secs that Moneysupermarket does.
And, for what it's worth, M&S was by far the most competitive quote for me both last year and this. And I adjusted the online quote, successfully, several times - as I added excesses / took them off to see what happened to the premium etc.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I got a great online quote via moneysupermarket for M&S
I then phoned them (free call) and paid £17 more for doing it over the phone but got 500 points on my M&S card and get sent a £20 voucher to use instore!!It's far better to be penny wise than pound foolish.

Saved £150 on my home contents and buildings insurance this renewal by switching to M&S, went direct to the site and not through a comparison site.0
