mine is £8 this year
that includes buffet and dj
its an area one so they usually have them in local clubs (working men type ones) to keep the costs down. dont know where this years will be yet. but as DH also workks for same company is a good nt out. usually get far too drunk and fall asleep so trying not to do that year
but as my store is closing we are having a 'closing down type nt' this is costing me £20 for food and 1/2 bottle of wine and vip entry to Pure in the printworks... not too bad but will ocst me £20 to get home... and drinks in club are expensive... dh not coming to this one!'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
In true MSE style - I AM going to ours - free transport there and back, free meal and free drinks all night - and no, I'm not joking!
It's usually a great night.
Same here Trow. I forget that I used to have to pay for my Christmas do at my old job. We get to leave work early, restaurant is in walking distance. Free 3 course meal, free wine with it, free bar before, during and after and taxi home for whoever wants one (it would be about £35 for me) as they hate the thought of anyone drink driving. A lot of us go into town to carry on drinking afterwards so have to make our own way home but that's our choice!0 -
ours is totally free, bosses pay for transport, meal & drinks :T just for staff though, no partners.Wiggly:heartpulsFB0

Hi slightly diffrent view.
I work for a charity they give 5.00 per volunteer (I and my assistants have to pay for ourselves.Dont have a prob with that) we book a table look at the menu place the order in advance so everyone knows how much its going to cost them.Lifts are arranged between ourselves.Other years we have hired a hall had a quiz and all brought a dish.
This year there will be 24 vols going to dinner another 2 wont come because they dont like the noise and crowds,2 cant come they have to work,3 are at collage and 3 are special needs (their care homes will not support them at this kind of function:mad: )so these people will get a gift voucher or suitable gift.
Many charity volunteers get cross and think money should be for the charity not for them. However a little thank you is a good idea these people work a minimum of 3 hours a week 48 weeks a year if they were paid at minimum wage (think its about 5.50) thats 792.00 each that they donate.Im very proud of my volunteers they make my job a delight so Im glad they recive a thank you from HQ they deserv it.
I have never understood why people are made to feel they must go to a staff do:o most are a bore and darnd expensive.I for one in the past have said sorry cant afford it.Far too much stress at Christmas anyway without tring to work out how to pay for somthing I dont want. Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
thanks for all your replies! i spoke to my OH last night and he just looked as if to say "do you know what we could do with £150" .. (yes i do!) so looks like Im going on my own and he will take me so will only be £50 (or £30, but cant see the majority going for that option). My OH's work do would cost us about £50 EACH WAY in taxis alone, it is about 1hr away in the middle of nowhere, so hes not going to that (I offered to drive tho!) so between the two of us, for us to go to both it would cost over £300!! ridiculous! I would rathe spend £50 and go for a romantic meal for 2!!
come on then -whos taking me to their free xmas do?

We were offered four options. They were all dinner & dance's in hotels, the cheapest was £32.50, the most expensive was £39.50.
The one they all cohose is way out of town, so by the time you've added on the cost of a taxi and drinks you are looking at about £100:eek:
One of the others offered to start a "Xmas Club" to save up, but it's not the saving up that bothers me. I just CAN'T justify spending that on a night out for me alone! I have five family birthday's in December as well as Xmas, and I'd prefer to spend the money on that.
I also hate my boss, she hates me, so the thought of her being nice to me just because its Xmas:rotfl:
NO THANKS!
I just said I'm not going, and apparently I'm not the only one!:TI Believe in saving money!!!:T
