Bad building work

Options
I had a new flat roof put on my dormer this week, the day they took off the old one they just covered the exposed house with the new material ready to go on the next day. They never sealed it in any way, obviously it rained all night and has caused a lot of damage.
What approach should I take, do I ask for money knocked off, them to replace damaged goods etc, will they just tell me to claim on my insurance? Sorry if i sound naive, I've never been in this situation before.
So far I've only paid 10% deposit
Cheers

  • What did they say when you told them?
  • They just apologised then asked could I pay the bill apart from 1k (pay that when the doors are fitted)
I said I'm not paying a penny till I'm happy.

Original problem resolved now, but another leak appeared yesterday.

How did you find these builders?
There are a lot of cowboy roofers .
  • I had safestyle out for a quote for windows ( just so I knew a price to work down from). Amazingly this company rang me the next day, assuming safestyle shared my info.
I tried to get as many quotes as possible, there was only 2 companies that wanted the work though, these and a local cash in hand firm, so thought I'd done the right thing.
