Eon...prepayment Gas card problems.

Hoping for some advice on these forums as I really am at the end of my tether.
I changed from British Gas to Eon on the 24th November. They posted a new card for me to use. I followed the enclosed instructions by putting the card into the meter before topping up. The display on the gas meter showed "Card not accepted".
No problem, these things happen, contacted Eon for another Gas card. That was sent, inserted it into the Gas meter. Same result "Card not accepted". Phoned Eon and they arranged to replace the meter which was done on the 13th December as well as sending another Gas card. Same problem as before with no other error messages.
Just had the 4th Gas card arrive today...no prizes for guessing the outcome!
This is getting to be beyond a joke. I haven't been able to top up my gas since changing over, and am now in the situation where it won't be long before the meter runs out.
Eon are absolutely hopeless (in my opinion).
So the question to you kind folks is where do I go from here?

Given the issues you had with the previous 2 top-up cards, why did you not check in the presence of the fitter that the new meter (which was presumably arranged in a hope to resolve your issues) worked with at least one of the cards you have?0 -
He did, neither card worked with the replacement meter. He suggested to contact Eon as the cards were defective.
Just to update today 16/12. I can either wait for 10 days to have a new meter fitted or if I run out of gas they will replace it in 3 hours. I don't have enough gas for 10 days so looks like the 3 hour option.
The fun part is that I asked the Eon advisor what would happen if they replaced the meter and none of the gas cards they sent worked and I was without energy. They assured me this would not be the case. Will keep this post updated.0 -

If he wasn't prepared to do it, I would have insisted he waited whilst I did just that.
(The last time I have add meters changed, I was expected to sign something ... essentially saying all was well, and I was content with the work carried out)
Perhaps the supplier would have instructed him to install an unrestricted meter in the circumstances?
Or you can continue with repeatedly doing the same thing in the hope of a different outcome.
Good luck!0 -
I believe that if the old suppliers gas card is used then any future payments go to the new supplier automatically.I had card not excepted when a new card arrived from British Gas and simply rentered the card and heard a beep left it for one minute then the new tarriff was updated.0

I've left the previous Eon cards in from 5minutes to an hour and still get "Card not accepted".
Well the engineer when he replaces the meter will not be going anywhere until I have a gas supply! I am due to change to a smart prepayment meter for gas and electricity, but not until the 15th January. if they have to put in a standard meter for 3 weeks so be it.0
