This heading should read Best way to access internet when local WiFi not available?

I asked in another post just now, how to replace OH's lost Vodafone dongle. OH is self employed in a job where he regularly needs to get online and run diagnostics sometimes for an extended period, on his laptop , out of hours, in locations where local WiFi access is not available.

There are a surprising number of these locations. He has been using a Vodafone dongle to do this for several years but maybe there are now better ways to do this? Anyone else have a similar problem and if so how do you solve it?

Use his mobile phone as a wifi hotspot depending on the data package he has on it.

Have a look at MiFi devices, these give you a wifi connection using the mobile network. Essentially the same as using a dongle except that you can use multiple devices with it and it doesn't need to be co-located with the laptop which might be useful if signal is an issue.

Almost all the networks offer them so shop around for the best deal.
