Help with tax credit

Can someone please advise me on my situation.
I have just had my final tax credits decision April 2016-April 2017 and April 2017 -April 2018 today.
Whilst reading them i noticed that they only counted my 17 year old son up until April 2017 for tax credits purposes even though he was still at College until the July.
Usually i wouldn't be too worried but i have had an overpayment generated and thought that they would have included him on the claim until the July when he finished his course, not just stopped him from the claim?
could someone please confirm for me that the claim should have included him until he left in the July so that when i call tomorrow i have my facts correct.
I have had to wait a while for this claim to be finalised as they had to check a few things, For example that we had our private pension (this i deducted but their real time information doesn't account for that) and when these 2 letters came today i noticed errors, my child in College being just one of them, the other being that they took the pension off of the 2016-2017 claim but failed to apply it to the 2017-2018 claim even though they are basing it on the 2016-2017 claim.
was hoping it would be quite straightforward but as usual i will have to call and tell them of the errors as have an overpayment of £600 odd, my son being on the claim correctly could be the difference to this.
Trying to get things in order and feeling bit overwhelmed at the moment as have health issues and been told today i could have MS which has been a little upsetting so coming home to extra worry is making me stressed.
Thanks in advance

If he was in full time non advanced education and you advised them of this then yes you should have received tax credits for him.0

Thanks, yes he was in education at that point and on the award they include him, it stopped briefly in the August after he left School then restarted on the Sept 1st as i had informed them he was in College. He was then on the claim but only up until the renewal in April which i thought was odd.
He was then excluded from the claim 2017-2018 totally even though he was in College in the April.
At least i can call them now and know i have the correct information.0 -
Did you complete the renewal? Why have you had a finalised award for 2017/18 already?0
