Standard UK Visitor Visa, letter of invitation or form?

Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, please move if not appropriate to this board.

We have a Turkish family friend who wants to come and stay with us for a 3 week holiday in March.

He has been told that there is a form that we (as UK nationals) can fill out that will help him with his Standard UK Visitor Visa application. I did wonder if he meant the 'Sponsor a visa applicant Form SU07' but, having looked at the gov.uk website it doesn't look as if he would need this form for a visitor visa.

Does anyone know if there is a form for this situation, or if some sort of 'Letter of Invitation' would be what was needed?

Hope someone can help :)

There isn't a form for this, as you've seen the sponsorship form isn't used for this category of visa. Write a letter of invitation. A pretty simple "I invite XXX to visit me from XXX to XXX and stay with me at XXX" etc. There are examples online if you have a search.

They will need to provide your details as part of the application and it will help if you can also provide a rough plan or schedule of things you plan to see and do with them during their visit.
  • We had to do something like this for Mrs MbW's mum to come here to attend our wedding (Mrs MbW already had a UK fiancee visa) and it was slightly easier since we had all the wedding paperwork that we could supply copies of with the letter.

It's just as dj1471 explains, and it would be useful if you can state that you take full responsibility for the visitor's accommodation, travel arrangements and any required expenses.

At least make it very clear whether you are paying all the costs of the trip, or simply providing hospitality. Either way, make it clear why you are doing so -- say a little about how you know the person and the nature of the relationship.
  • Thanks for the replies :)
