Early season midweek short ski break?

Four of us want to go skiing for about 3 days.
We've only ever done week long holidays. We'd be travelling from the London area. We favour France for its proximity. The price of the snow train came as a shock! There are budget flights for a lot less. We would consider coach travel.
Would we be better off with a package deal or do our own?
Anyone done this sort of ski break?

have you checked out the short ski breaks on lastmin.com, they are coming up as £300 each for 3 days with flights and accommodation, seems a lot to me when you can get a week for that.
you may be best just getting the cheap flights and sorting it our yourselves0 -
