Young cat died suddenly

You have my sympathy, sorry for your loss.
We had always been 'dog people' until a cat next door, "belonging" to a very elderly man, wandered in, jumped onto my son's lap - and stayed. The old fellow was quite happy for her to come to us as he was planning to go into a Care Home. We grew to love that cat, which we named "Lodger" as we learned that we were the third home she had called Home! She lived to 19 years old and, when she was too old to catch birds and mice, she showed the intelligence she always had, by climbing the tree next door and waiting for neighbours to put out crumbs for the birds. I watched her sometimes, as she waited in the tree for the birds to gather, then dropped out of the tree upon them. 9 times out of 10 she missed, but I had to give her marks for this manoever! She would also fall asleep sometimes and fall out of the tree, always landing on all 4 paws of course. If she saw me looking out of the window at that, I swear she gave me a look of reproach!
I don't know how long she would have lived, because at 19 she was still getting around and trying to open the cupboard where her food was kept. But it broke our hearts when we came home one Saturday night, to be told that she had been hit by a bus. Both my wife, myself, son and daughter were very upset and we buried her in her favourite sunlit spot, under the massive Honeysuckle bush at the top of the garden.
They become a member of the family.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I am so very very sorry for your loss. Same happened to me. Fed puss night before as usual. Next morning went to room to get her as she had not woke - not like her - she was still warm when I went to her and say "wake up" but she didn't stir - she was all curled up fast asleep like. She had eaten her food and had used the bathroom as she had new litter. She was only 6. No sign of anything wrong with her. No idea why.0

I'm so sorry for you.
[thread=3388876]Six years ago[/thread] my 2 1/2 year old cat suddenly suffered a heat attack over night - the vet diagnosed that she had an enlarged heart and this had triggered it. She wasn't able to recover over night, and we had her put to sleep the following day. A brother from her littler later was diagnosed with a heart mumur and had to go onto medication - he later died from a seizure aged 8. I've just lost her other brother pictured in that thread, he died from kidney failure aged nine.
Fundamentally the whole litter we still had contact with had various problems. I know the mother storms on, so the dad must have carried all sorts of genetic issues.
I can only take happiness in knowing that whilst the cats were with us, they enjoyed happy comfortable lives, and brought us so much joy. They had the problems they had, and nothing could have changed that - as we learned of the problems we supported them with the right diet and medication.
To answer your last question - I'd doubt this. My first cat growing up suffered "torture" (i.e. just too much attention) from me and my sister when we were younger. He lived to the ripe old age of 18!0
