Water coming in through air brick

We are in a 1930s semi and have noticed some quite disturbing water ingress through the air brick / vent in the upstairs north facing bedroom. After periods of medium or heavy rain there is blatant drip marks down the wall and the carpet at the base is soaked.
I can't put my finger on what the issue might be. The vent is quite close to the rainwater down pipe off the roof which I know isn't the most effective drainage solution as water can often be seen coming down the outside of the pipe. The paint on the front of the house is blown around the air vent due to the gutter issue, so it is definitely penetrating in, though it baffles me how it can actually get in to the air brick in the first place and then come in to the bedroom as gravity would surely force it to drop down the outside of the brick and continue its journey to the ground..
I am trying to get somebody to come out and quote for replacing the gully and down pipe to secure the water drainage though with the cold weather it seems the last thing anybody wants to do is be up a ladder looking at my rainwater drainage.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to stop the water penetration? Alternatively could it be anything but the ineffective gully on the roof?
Many thanks

Pictures, please. In context.
If that’s what you can see though, it sounds the likely culprit.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Could just be a blocked gutter and not need replacing. Wind will blow any water freefalling onto the wall so I expect that is how it is reaching the air vent.0

You can get covers to help reduce draughts and wind noise

This might help if water is splashing into the air brick somehow but won't help if water is overflowing the gutter and actually flowing down the wall and into the air brisk. (which would need fixing anyway)0
