Downstairs Warm/Upstairs Cold
Hi there,
I wonder if someone could advise me on what to do. I brought a house last year and it's a 2 Bed Semi-Detached House, which is roughly 25 years old now.
The radiators have all been bled, and work fine.
I have recently had a new boiler fitted in the summer this year. Now Winter has come, the heating heats downstairs no problem, and upstairs remains a fridge.
I have the heating on for about 2-3 hours a day in winter, but downstairs does get drafty after a while, and upstairs remains so cold, and unbearable.
Please could anyone please advise?

Well......
I think we need a bit more info really.
Firstly are the radiators upstairs getting hot?
If they are the issue isn't with the heating system.
Does your house have double glazing throughout? does it have a loft, does the loft have insulation? Have you closed all the doors upstairs? If you have are rooms still cold?
Have you tried turning the heating on for longer?0 -
2-3 hours in the winter is not long enough .0

Also why is downstairs draughty?
That's not the problem of a heating system, that's either windows and doors that are draughty, or poor insulation or both0 -
Do the rads have TRVs fitted? If so are they at correct setting?Gardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

If heating is working fine and rads properly positioned, you have a heat loss issue.
Could be the windows and/or loft insulation.0 -

My house is perpetually cold - thermostat at this time of year doesn’t make it above 12 degrees C. I think it might be to do with BTU output of my single panel radiators upstairs... if your radiators upstairs are warm, are they creating warm air currents above them?0
