moving from TD Waterhouse to ii - very poor experience

So over a week ago I called Interactive Investor to inform them that the spelling of my name was incorrect. I then followed up with a second call and two secure email messages before they finally told me (over a week later!) I needed to send in a certified copy of my passport.
I needed yet another message for them to tell me exactly what a certified copy is (i.e. what would be acceptable).
Most annoyingly they also told me they wouldn't accept original documents - "only certified copies".
The entire reason for doing this is to move away from their IMO expensive platform to another provider.
I of course haven't checked my original contract with TD Waterhouse or new one with ii but seems unlikely they would suggest an ID check could only be done with a copy of the ID not the original itself?

Why? It's not a question of whether it could (theoretically) be done with an original document, they're just saying that their procedure is not to do it that way. It's not uncommon at all, many financial institutions do this - with certified copies they don't have to take on the responsibility of safeguarding the originals and getting them returned to the customer....michael1234 wrote: »I of course haven't checked my original contract with TD Waterhouse or new one with ii but seems unlikely they would suggest an ID check could only be done with a copy of the ID not the original itself?0
