Turned down by O2?!?

Hi all, i applied for a new phone contract with O2 yesterday and for some reason was turned on the basis of my credit search. I immediately thought something must be wrong with the details they have about me, so i've obtained credit reports from the big 3 and everything is exactly as it should be. I have excellent credit scores with them all (989 with Experian), earn very good money, have an immaculate credit history...i've never ever missed a payment, homeowner, long credit history, been with same bank for 20+ years, same employer for 11 years, i've never been turned down for any credit in my life...i'm 42, and always qualify for preferential rates. So i'm baffled as to how i've been refused. Besides obtaing the reports etc is there anything else i can do? O2 themselves were useless, simply spouting 'check with the reference agencies'....who say everything is spot on. So what is the solution, if any?

Any defaults or late payments on the reports?
Are you on the Electoral Roll?
Ignore the scores since they're made up0 -
They don't have to accept you as a customer and nor do 02 have to inform you of the reason for the decline.0

No, never missed a payment, never been late with a payment, credit card utilisation below 30%, I'm on the electoral role. I understand they are not obligated to accept me as a customer, but it puzzles me as to why....I'm as safe a bet as anyone bar the Queen. They want to make money, i want to give them money. Any ideas?0

You say "contract" but was it a new phone and tariff or a sim only tariff?
These days when you get a new phone and tariff the cost is split between the phone on credit and the airtime tariff. It could be that you have been rejected for the credit element because there is something wrong with your existing credit. Perhaps your credit utilisation is high or your available credit is high when compared to your income.
If the above is the case try a monthly rolling sim-only contract which could be more successful.0
