Product Liability Insurance that covers USA

Hello,

I have a very small petwear company, a retailer wants to place a order with us. However one of the terms is that we have Product Liability Insurance that covers USA/Canada (up to 5 million). The company which our current policy is with doesn't cover USA, I have been intouch with various companies and I can't seem to find cover.

Does anyone know companies that do? (thats are affordable too!).

Thanks for your help!

I imagine it's to do with the litigiousness of American society.
Is the supplier able to suggest someone, or how about contacting a business in a similar situation and asking how they cover it.

Exactly as Pramsay 13 says. Its difficult cover to get and I'm not aware its available as a stand alone product. It can be added in to your business insurance assuming you have some. You would need an insurance broker for that kind of thing you might want to try ProAktive on 01302 341344.
  • For liability policies generally, Hiscox seem to be the go to people. No idea if they would cover petwear in the US, but might be worth a chat. But they'd probably need to have all your liability insurance to make it worth while.

Does your packaging instructions cover every stupid purchaser possible?

The story of the woman that microwave her pet and successfully sued the company is embedded into my brain. Instructions didn't say you couldn't?

Thats just stupid but thats the USA for you.

That's exactly why insurers are very twitchy if you sell in America but you can get cover.
  • Thanks so much for your advise! I am worried about going ahead, even if I find somewhere-ha! @formyname that is crazy!
