Problems with new Barclays account - Unable to set up payments or use mobile app

I opened a Barclays current account recently which I was intending to use for switching. After receiving the paperwork in the post I complete the online banking set-up. I quickly learned that Barclays' online banking functionality is very limited, as you need a PINsentry card reader to set up payments to new payees. This includes faster payments, standing orders and direct debits. I also can't log in to the mobile app as it requires a PINSentry to complete set up and login. It's been over a week since I opened the account and I've not received a PINSentry card reader. I received an email saying one would be posted to me but it hasn't arrived. I've had the debit card and pin, but nothing else.
Has anyone else had these issues with Barclays? I've found the whole situation to be quite tedious. I only chose Barclays as their account opening and set-up process is allegedly among the quickest and easiest of any bank. I've found that not to be the case unfortunately.

Do you already have a card reader from another bank? If so I believe you should be able to use that, with the Barclay's card and pin obviously.0

Yes. I ended up going into branch and using one of their PINSentry readers, which they wouldn't let me take away, and then wait for the physical one in the post.
Once you have access to the app though, you can use the PINsentry built within it.
I have since switched my Barclays account for the B.
Would have taken ages to earn £250 through their Blue rewards scheme.
For the record, I did try a Nationwide reader, however, that didn't work for me.0 -
On both of our Barclays accounts, we had to chase up the pinsentry by phone. On both occasions we were asked if we wanted to order one, they didn’t seem to be sending one out automatically.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

I’m pretty sure you can set up payments just using your debit card?0

I have got a spare one, which I will happily sell to you.0

My Nationwide card reader accepts my Barclays debit card, and vice versa.
If you think opening a Barclays Account is poor try opening a Birmingham Midshires savings account the system they use was invented pre computer days.0
