Ikea installations are a disaster, BEWARE

Beware of Ikea kitchens - dealing with Ikea has been nothing short of a traumatic and harrowing experience. This company do not care about their customers.

I am having to seek legal advice to try to get some compensation, because Ikea have taken 8 months to install a kitchen in my house. Some of that was down to unexpected works, which is fair enough - I paid for that separately and got it done. BUT the rest was stress, lies, miscommunication, and a total lack of customer support throughout the whole thing. The kitchen is done now, after 8 months of hell, but, as a leaving present they have left my house full of garbage, which Ikea were supposed to collect and clear. And guess what?? They haven't. Ikea customer services tell me to call installations, and installations have a phone number that nobody answers - it just says "there is no-one here to take your call." There is no way to leave a message, no way to contact them. This was the problem 8 months ago, it's still the problem now.

What is this company doing?? How can a company of this size have ZERO customer care?? We're taking about kitchens costing £10s of thousands here, and they can't provide ANY customer support??? The amount of stress and financial pressure this experience has put us under is crazy, just beware before buying anything from these fraudsters.

I can support this to some degree, my parents had an Ikea installation.

They delivered the wrong worksurface, then delivered too much. Then didn't take away the incorrect or excess material despite being asked to on a weekly basis. Always promised someone would be in touch, or turn up. Was never the case, was about 6 months before they managed it.

Sorry to hear your story project_c, slightly different but had two IKEA kitchens over many years, the quality was great.
But I fitted them myself not using their contractors, hope you get this sorted.

  • The problem is not so much with the kitchen itself, which seems acceptable, it's the 8 months of sheer hell and insane extra cost which comes with it, i might as well have spent double and got a decent kitchen fitted and i'd still be better off. I am so angry with Ikea, they are scamming people on a gigantic scale, beware everyone, you have been warned!
  • In fact i might just take the garbage, chuck it in a van and dump it right on their doorstep in croydon.

It's poor service, not a scam.

Grenfell is traumatic and harrowing. A poor kitchen installation is an annoyance.

If you want compensation then ask for it, but be factual and avoid the histrionics.

    What a pointlessly pompous response.

An experience which involves 8 months of stress, an unnecessary house move and massive financial pressure is harrowing and traumatic. Let's see you try to deal with it as a mild 'annoyance'.

Your comment about compensation suggests you haven't even read the post. How do you suggest I ask for compensation from a company who refuses to respond to calls or messages?

A scam is defined in the Oxford dictionary as the following: "dishonest scheme; a fraud". When you're told a service you pay for will take 1 week, and then it takes 8 months, in which time you have to move out of your own house because it's uninhabitable, and as a result incur extra costs which go into the tens of thousands, all because of a negligent company, I'm afraid that qualifies as a pretty dishonest scheme.

I'm hopefully doing people a favour by alerting them to Ikea's negligence, if you have something useful to add, by all means do so, but if you're just here to score clever points, take it somewhere else please.

I once dealt with ikea and even their own manager admitted their customer service was appalling.
They are fine unless something goes wrong.

So have you taken them to court for your provable losses?
