tax credit ended?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me because i'm struggling to get any useful info from HMRC.
My husband an i are on a reasonably low income and have a high childcare bill, we were able to claim £175 per month in tax credits all last year and up until June we were still claiming the same amount which was all correct.
In june my husbands company offered him weekly overtime which was a huge amount for 3 weeks, after trying to amend the tax credit i was told i'd be better off financially to claim the tax free childcare system and to end the tax credit claim which was all fine.
Then In August the overtime stopped and husband was back on his basic pay again but we are still on the tax free childcare system so were about £50 per month worse off then we were originally.
My question is, would it be worth re doing a claim for the tax credit s or will they automatically reassess it in April at the end of the year?

The only advice i can give you is if your area is a full Universal Credit (UC) area then you won't be able to calim Tax credits again, it would be UC that you would need to claim if needed. If you put your postcode in this link it will tell you. https://universalcreditinfo.net/

Who told you that you would be better off on TFC? Did you tell them the overtime was just temporary for 3 weeks?

As Poppy says, it depends on whether you are in a universal credit area, if you are then you will need to compare TFC to universal credit but you may find you don't get as much as you did in tax credits.

If that turns out to be the case, you need to take some advice and get a copy of the phone call recording advising you that you will be better off on TFC if that advice proved to be wrong.
